The reasons to level your Motorhome or Campervan?

What are the reasons to level your motorhome or campervan? Well the answer is It not only increases your comfort during your stay but can help you prevent problems along the way. Proper leveling may help prevent problems, increase the efficiency of appliances and make your trip more comfortable.

So lets take a look at the top reasons why you should level a motorhome or campervan.

1. Minimise Structural Stress

If your motorhome is not level, you are adding stress to many areas including door frames, plumbing, cupboards, and even the chassis. Motorhomes are built to be level so you may cause unnecessary issues if you are using it without it being leveled as reasonably as you can. By having a level motorhome you are ensuring your doors and cupboards open and close properly, the water in your pipes is flowing freely and not pooling where it shouldn’t, and your chassis is properly supporting the weight of the motorhome structure.

2. Prolong the life of your fridge

Most motorhomes have a fridge that works on either gas or electricity or indeed both. It needs to be level in order to function properly.

Motorhome fridges are susceptible to issues when not level because it can cause the internal coolant system to not flow properly and accumulate in low points of the system interfering with the boiling condensing process the fridge uses to cool. When the vehicle is in motion the movement during the journey keeps any fluid from pooling in the wrong area for too long. When stationary then the fridge system will perform better when level.

3. False reading on fresh and waste water tanks

If your motorhome is not properly level then your tank sensors will not read correctly. Depending on the slope the water will pool to one end of the relevant tank so, your sensors may read as more full or more empty than they really are. This can also affect drainage by not allowing your tanks to empty when you want to dispose of the water on board within your system.

4. Heating and Fluids

If your motorhome has a wet central heating system such as Alde, then it will work much better and efficiently if you level your vehicle as much as you can. The reason for this is the fluid in the system will not be prone to pooling. Now of course the system will be pressurised to some degree but it will mean the pump will not have to work as hard to compensate if your vehicle is level.

5. Overall Comfort

One of the main reasons to level your motorhome is for your overall comfort. Not only can it be extremely annoying when you put something down and it rolls off the table or counter top but an unlevel motorhome can throw off your sense of balance. It can contribute to an overall feeling of uneasiness and disorientation. Although it’s unlikely you’re going to fall out of bed (although you never know) it’s still not going to help a restful sleep if you feel your sleeping on a hill.
