Wellhouse Leisure launches its first ever all-electric Kia PV5 campervan
Prices for the Kia PV5 i-Camper start from £59,995 and it comes with a 71.2kWh battery, which offers a range of up to 247 miles (WLTP).
Wellhouse Leisure has completed its first ever conversion of an all electric Kia PV5 into a campervan – and already the first batch of 30 vehicles has been sold.
The Kia PV5 is based on the higher spec KIV PV5 Plus model for the conversion, which could make it appealing for those shopping for one of the best camper vans. This means that it comes with a larger 71.2kWh battery, which offers a range of up to 247 miles (WLTP).
A heat pump has also been fitted as standard to help maximise the range during cooler weather. As the PV5 can also recharge from 10% to 80% in 30 minutes, this could potentially add a further 197 miles to a day’s range for the electric campervan.
The 4.69m-long KIA PV5 i-Camper is available in four different exterior colours – Clear White, Black Pearl, Steel Grey and Cityscape Green – with a choice of graphics. There are also four different interior finishes. Inside you get a kitchen with a campervan induction hob, a 42-litre electric condenser fridge, and the option of a 700W microwave.
There is LED lighting throughout, plus you get a 200W campervan solar panel and a 150Ah lithium leisure battery.
The cab in the KIA PV5 i-Camper includes heated cab seats and a heated steering wheel, as well as a 12.9-inch touchscreen with sat nav, Apple Car Play and Android Auto. You also get parking sensors and a reversing camera.
The crash-tested individual rear seats from Schnierle in Germany recline to form a double bed, while there is a second double bed resting on Froli springs in the pop-top roof. The seats can also be slid forwards or completely removed to create more storage space.
David Elliott, CEO of the Barnsley company, said, “In 30 years of selling campervans, we’ve never seen anything like this level of interest in a new model. Most of our customers have already switched to an electric car and don’t want a petrol or diesel campervan.”
Kia recently set a Guinness World Record for electric light commercial vehicles by travelling 430 miles along real roads in Germany in a fully laden PV5 on a single charge.
The Kia PV5 i-Camper costs from £59,995 OTR. The company plans to launch a high top version next year, and is already working on converting the larger Kia PV7 model.
In other recent news, a new Trigano-owned brand has launched and is offering VW Crafter-based campervans for under £62,000. Atom Motorhomes is initially launching with two campervans, the rear lounge 600B and the two single beds over a garage 600G.
