Have we found the best value for money campsite at Haven Greenacres Holiday Park?

The month of March saw us take the motorhome to the coast of North Wales, to Haven Greenacres Holiday Park. Haven Greenacres is located around 2 miles southwest of Porthmadoc and we headed there to start a pleasant 4 day (3 nights) break.

About the Site

Haven Greenacres Holiday Park is located near Porthmadoc and just a short stroll to the beach. It’s ideally located for the attractions, that North Wales has to offer as well as providing a holiday for those who wish to remain on site. 

We set off from Liverpool heading along the A55 and circumnavigating the North Wales coastline with a journey time of around 2 hours and 10 minutes. The A55 joins the A487 then enters Porthmadog High Street and following the signposts  to Haven Holiday Park.

Arriving around 1pm we had clearly brought the weather with us as the sun was shining in abundance, unofrunately this wasn’t to last past the first day. The arrival process was very swift and well organised without ever leaving our motorhome. The lady who greeted us at the barrier confirmed our booking reference and name and directed us to the touring area where we would be met by a gentleman called Clive. Sure enough in a small wooden sentry box was Clive who greeted us with a smile and gave us our allocated pitch number, welcome pack and after pointing out all the usual amenities answered any questions we may have had.

Pitches

The pitches were very good. They were concrete hard standing and loose gravel to the side of that and bordered with grass. Each pitch had space for a car. The great thing was the pitches not only had electric hookup which you’d expect but also TV connection point, water and grey waste drainage. Now these are available on some club sites which are charged as “Super pitches” but the price of these pitches were such good value that I had to recheck my booking that I hadn’t made a mistake. Throughout the site there was plenty of shrubs and greenery that made for a pleasant environment and in the distance you could see over to the welsh hills which added to the countryside feeling of the site.. 

Facilities

The facilities are where this site excels in comparison to other sites. The toilet and shower facilities were of a good standard and easily accessible and reflected the overall quality of the site. Dogs were welcome on site although I don’t have one, I think they may have a limit of two dogs per booking but thats something that you’ll need to confirm if you have more than two pooches. Now here’s where the facilities truly get a massive thumbs up. Want a pub on site, well there is one, The Mash and Barrel, that serves food and has outside seating areas for those warmer days. Want another bar to watch sport or just sit and relax? well theres another bar for that too. Bored of an evening and want live variety entertainment like magicians, singers etc? Well yes you’ve guessed it they have a proper stage that also hosts quizzes and Bingo too! These venues are modern and well laid out and you don’t have to pay for the entertainment, it’s all included in the price!

There’s a mini supermarket on site for all your food and drink needs. If you fancy a night off from cooking but still want to eat in your motorhome then there’s also takeaways on offering on site such as Pappa Johns Pizza, a fish and chip shop, Millies Cookies oh an an ice cream van!

There’s also a swimming pool that’s available and included in your pitch fee, you just book your time slot to avoid over crowding in the large pleasant swimming pool with life guards on duty. There’s also an outdoor small splash area for those warmer days (I presume for the kids), there are bikes to hire, a climbing wall, although that wasn’t open when we stayed. All of this included in the price of the pitch – I’m still amazed at the price and the value.

Price

The cost for the super pitch, with Electric, Water and Grey Waste on Pitch, all the usual campsite facilities and access to all the facilities including the swimming pool and entertainment was a mere  £15.50 per night! Yes you read that correctly, £15.50 per night. I still can’t believe how such good value that was even as I write this. I have not stayed anywhere that offers such excellent value for money. Now obviously as with all holidays be it campsites, holiday parks, airlines or hotels, you are going to see an increase in price at key times such as Bank Holidays. But if you want a mid week break outside of those times then this is hard to beat.

 

Things To Do

• The Site has access to a beautiful beach.This stunning stretch of sand is quite literally attached to the site, on a summers day this will be perfect.

• Greenacres is set nicely on the North Wales Coast Path, the perfect place to stretch your legs and explore the breath-taking bay.

• Enjoy a mountain walk or stroll in the beautiful Snowdonia National Park

• Visit the Slate Caverns
• Ride on the Welsh Highland Heritage Railway, a short reconstructed heritage railway in Gwynedd.
• Go and see Portmeirion Village, a  unique village is surrounded by sub-tropical woodland gardens

 This site is without doubt the best value site taking into account everything. Put away any fears of an aged Hi-de-Hi style holiday park, this site is as good as any and better than most, with all the amenities to match. Treat it as a normal site with the added bonus extras of all the onsite facilities. This site truly is excellent value if you time it right and want to explore this wonderful part of the country.
