SNP motorhome drama set to be dramatised for TV

The drama, which is being produced for Channel 5, will tell the story of Nicola Sturgeon’s ex-husband’s downfall.

The political drama surrounding Peter Murrell’s embezzlement of Scottish National Party (SNP) funds to buy a Niesmann + Bischoff motorhome, among other things, is set to be made into a TV drama.

TV channel 5 has commissioned the drama, which tells the story of Nicola Sturgeon’s ex-husband’s downfall, which includes the purchase of the luxury motorhome, for an as yet unspecified date.

With a working title of “To Nicola, Love Peter”, the drama is being produced for Channel 5 by Wonderwood Studios. This is the same team which was behind “Power: the Downfall of Huw Edwards”, a TV drama which first aired earlier this year and has since been watched by 4.3 million people.

The new drama will tell how Murrell, when he was SNP chief executive, diverted £400,00o which had initially been donated by party supporters to go towards a new independence referendum. Instead he used it to buy luxury goods, including the iSmove motorhome.

In May this year Murrell pleaded guilty and was sentenced to prison for over five years.

The cast for the new drama will be announced in the coming weeks. The production team say the drama will draw on an extensive range of factual sources including evidence gathered by Police Scotland, the Crown Office sand Procurator Fiscal Service, and TV and newspaper interviews with Sturgeon and others.

Ben Frow, chief content officer for 5, said, “This is an epic tale of Shakespearean proportions. An extraordinary tale of power, envy, deception and greed. It’s both a high-stakes political melodrama and bizarre domestic drama that has dominated headlines and gossip columns. We will be pulling together the events and characters involved to create a compelling revealing drama.”

For the 2027 season, Niesmann + Bischoff has upgraded its iSmove line-up, with the models now coming with Truma CombiNeo 6 E heating as standard, including the iNet X Panel.
