Looking for a ULEZ-compliant van perfect for weekend getaways that offers all the benefits of a hybrid? Panama might have the answer...

You know that we’re always on the lookout for the best camper vans, and this year’s Motorhome and Caravan show has not disappointed us in this pursuit. Visitors to the October NEC Show are getting a first look at something exciting from Spanish brand Panama: the P/10E is the company’s first-ever plug-in hybrid campervan. ULEZ-compliant and offering an electric-only range of up to 32 miles, the P/10E marks a major step forward for eco-conscious vanlifers.

On display at the Marquis Leisure stand, the 4-berth Panama P/10E launched earlier this year and is based on the Ford Tourneo Custom Active and pairs a 2.5-litre 230hp petrol engine with a 13kW plug-in hybrid battery, providing 11.8kW of usable power.

Despite its compact 5.04m length, the camper is impressively well equipped. It features a pop-up roof bed, with panoramic view, integrated mosquito nettings and two touch-controlled reading lights. Downstairs, is a kitchenette with 2-ring induction hob, fridge/freezer and sink plus a rear bench with 3 travel seats that includes ISOFIX points and converts into a double bed.

A freestanding table is included which can be used outside or attached to anchor points in the kitchen, with an integrated storage bag in the boot. Ambient lighting can be used via the dimmable LED strips on the pop-top base and above the kitchenette window. There’s also a dedicated storage compartment for the included Porta Potti, plus a 90Ah leisure battery and Pro Power Onboard inverter for off-grid adventures.

Comfort and convenience continue up front, with two comfortable captain swivel seats along with dual-zone air conditioning and a fixed rear-view camera. There is also a suite of driver assistance tech including Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane-Keeping Aid, Driver Alerts, Blind Spot Assist and Speed Sign Recognition. All in all, there are 6 USB charging ports, a 12V socket and two USB outlets in the cab.

With an MTPLM of 3245kg and a payload of 465kg, the P/10E offers a solid balance of practicality and performance. OTR prices start from £79,995.

Make sure not to miss other exciting releases including Swift’s new coachbuilt Trekker range, Malibu’s budget-friendly Relax campervan and the latest from Auto-Sleepers, the latter of whom have unveiled their own Fiat-based range aimed at younger buyers.
