Wellhouse are among the best campervan conversion companies in the UK, and the new electric campervan, which should be available by the summer, will come in two spec levels – Essential and Plus.

Plus models come with a 71.2kWh battery that should have a range of 258 miles (according to the widely recognised WLTP standard). Even the smaller 55.5kWh battery which will be fitted on Essential models still has a range of 181 miles.

With rapid charging, both batteries should also be able to go from 10 to 80% in 30 minutes, adding a further 197 or 144 miles, depending on the battery size.

The 4.6m-long Kia PV5, Kia’s first ever commercial vehicle, recently set a Guinness World Record for light commercial vehicles, running 430 miles on a single charge when fully loaded and on public roads in Germany.

David Elliot, founder and chief executive of Wellhouse Leisure, which is well known for producing campervans like the Misano 4.1, said the new vehicle was a “game changer”.

He added: “It looks really modern, is extremely smooth, and pleasant to drive, plus it is the first electric van to offer a decent range for long distance touring. This is the future of campervans.”

The new campervan will come with classic “VW-style” layout with a side kitchen unit and a rock’n’roll rear bench seat that folds down to make a double bed. There will be another double bed in the pop-top roof.

As standard, Essential models will come with a lithium battery, a 200W solar panel, LED headlights and rear lights, a 12.9-inch Apple CarPlay- and Android Auto-compatible touchscreen with sat nav, front and rear parking sensors and a rear parking camera, plus electrically adjustable and heated door mirrors, and an alarm.

Plus models also get vehicle-to-load capability for powering 240V appliances when campervanning off-grid, a heated steering wheel, a wireless mobile phone charger, a blind spot warning system, folding door mirrors, and the option of a heat pump.

You get a choice of gas or electric for cooking, as well as an optional second sliding door.

There are eight colour choices for the furniture (Sante Fe Oak, Pearl, Metallic Grey Gloss, Cashmere, Bardolino Oak, Blue Denim, Driftwood Non Gloss and Brown Smoked Gloss), three types of flooring, (light grey, dark grey and oak), and two worktop finishes (wood block and charcoal).

Exterior colours include clear white as standard, or you can opt for one of five metallic colours: Cityscape Green, Mint Green, Steel Grey, Midnight Black or White Pearl.
